Day 22: Wednesday, July 22

Pretty typical English day this morning. I woke up to rainfall, as it seems I have everyday this week, and headed to class.
Once class was over, I went back to the room to nap before the scavenger hunt in the afternoon.
The scavenger hunt was quite the experience. My group, Lauren, Briana, and I started off in the "main drag" of Oxford. We were given a sheet of paper with clues and 37 questions to answer along with a map. The three of us didn't even know where to start - the first clue was probably the hardest one; it read: "which way does the wind blow on this street" (I forget the name of the street, but it was the main pedestrian shopping area of Oxford where no cars are allowed.) The answer ended up being 'Lloyds TSB,' as this is the first building on the street. After this, we got into a nice rhythm and solved the remaining clues with less trouble. Some of the clues were difficult and we had to skip a few of them and then 'backtrack' after we had solved the proceeding clues. Luckily, we met a knowledgeable Englishmen named Frank who was able to point us in the right direction, and help us out with a few answer, when we got slightly off track. The hunt took us throughout most of the city of Oxford - the Bodleian Library, university, a Lord of the Rings related building, etc, and concluded at Oxford Castle. Our team answered all the clues in about 1 hr 40 minutes, which was surprisingly fast in my opinion, seeing as we were stuck on the first clue. Anyways, we were the first team to arrive at Oxford Castle with all the right answers. It was a pretty good feeling that we came in first and it was a great experience. We were able to see key landmarks of Oxford and we has a good time doing so. It kind of reminded me of the Amazing Race, where teams race around the world doing the same kind of thing we did today.
When I got back to the room, I was really tired from our exciting day so I took another nap and finished up my work later in the afternoon.
Overall, today was a great day. I'm looking forward to finishing up our last few classes!
